What You Need to Know About School Bus Signs for Germany
School bus signs are supposed to warn other car drivers about children that may run across the street in order to catch the bus or enter the lane when leaving the bus. Therefore, it is essential for the bus sign to be seen in all conditions.
Our school bus plates are retroreflective and have a conspicuous orange colour. They comply with German law and hence European regulations. For other countries, we recommend to check the stipulations of your national law first before ordering the school bus sign.
In Germany, you always need two vehicle plates – one for the front and one for the back of the bus. If you transport six to nine people (driver included), the sign should measure 400 x 400mm.
If there are more children in the bus, the front sign has to have the dimensions 400 x 400mm and the back sign 600 x 600mm. We also offer bus plates sized 250 x 250mm. Please note that these are only additional marking signs and cannot replace the obligatory larger signs.
Retroreflective Film with Hardwearing Qualities
Our bus signs are based on a reflective film from Orafol® with integrated glass beads (construction type A). Its reflectivity is classified RA1, which means basic reflection performance. The reflective sheeting is fit for everyday’ s tough road conditions: It is resistant to occasional fuel spills and vapour as well as solvents and corrosion. It withstands all (European) weathers.
Sign Solutions for Permanent or Temporary Usage
Depending on your needs, you can choose between several mounting options. For permanent use, we recommend the sign as self-adhesive sticker. If you use your vehicle for other purposes than transporting people, you should opt for the magnetic sign or the vehicle plate with suction cups. Both variants allow a short-term usage of the school bus sign, which is important to fulfil legal requirements: The school bus plate is to be removed or covered when the vehicle does not transport six or more people anymore.

The sign variant with suction cups is made of a light-weight yet shatterproof IMPEX® polycarbonate plate. In order to prevent losing the sign when the school bus is moving, installing the school bus plate only inside the bus is recommended.
