Rear Marking Plates for Trailers and Semi-Trailers as per ECE 70

The objective of retroreflective rear marking plates is to warn other road users about the abnormal dimensions or the low speed of a vehicle. Especially at night or on foggy or rainy days, additional signalling vehicle signs can help to prevent accidents.

Rear marking plates are found with two different reflectivity classes: RA2 and RA3. However, the lower reflective class is less and less common since the latest version of the respective regulation – ECE 70.01 stipulates the higher reflectivity class for rear markers.

Since stronger reflectivity means better visibility and more safety, we recommend marker boards as per ECE 70.01.

How to Find the Right Rear Marker Board

Retroreflective or fluorescent?
Rear marking plates for trailers or semi-trailers have a yellow centre framed by a red border. The yellow centre is always retroreflective, while the red border can be either retroreflective (corresponding to class 4 as per ECE 70) or fluorescent (corresponding to class 2 as per ECE 70). Which one of the two versions you opt for is your own choice, i.e. they are interchangeable.

One large plate or several smaller plates?
Depending on the vehicle body, you may find full, half or quarter marker boards more suitable. Full markings measure 1130 x 130 mm and are fitted as single plate to the rear. Half markings measure 565 x 130 mm and must be mounted in pairs to the rear. If you display quarter markings (283 x 130 mm), you need to attach four of them to the back of the vehicle.

Permanent or temporary application?
In our shop, you can choose between several different ways to attach your rear plate(s): The marking sign as self-adhesive film is the most convenient option for a permanent usage, while a magnetic sign offers high flexibility, making it the perfect choice for temporary usage. A marking plate made of aluminium combines both possibilities: It can be used permanently or removed or attached as needed.
