What You Need to Know About Vehicle Safety Markings

In many countries, some types of vehicle are required by law to bear safety markings. In general, it is recommendable to think about safety marking for a bigger vehicle types like trucks, vans or farming vehicles. Thanks to their chevron pattern, the markings catch the eye and hence make the vehicles visible at the first glance – even at dusk, dawn and night.

What Are Vehicle Markings Made Of?

Reflective films are printed with the typical chevron pattern in red / white in order to build vehicle safety markings. We only use reflective sheeting made by 3MTM or Orafol®, since its quality is always excellent.

Depending on the vehicle and its purpose, you can opt between slightly reflective (type RA1/A) and strongly reflective (type RA2/B or RA2/C) sheeting. The greatest retroreflectivity is provided by safety markings for rescue services and fire engines (type RA3/C).

Furthermore, you can choose between temporary and permanent vehicle markings. For example, if you have a whole fleet and you would like to switch the markings from one car to another now and then, you should opt for a magnetic marking. If you would rather apply the marking once and use it on a long-term basis, the self-adhesive markings are for you.

If you prefer self-adhesive markings but you are sure you want to remove them sooner or later again, we recommend to use a carrier film for the vehicle marking. You apply the carrier film directly onto the lacquer and put the vehicle marking on top if it. So if you would like to remove the marking, you can do so by taking off the carrier film.

How to Maintain and Apply Vehicle Markings

Before applying vehicle markings, please make sure the substrate is clean. In order to increase pressure and eliminate air bubbles trapped in the film, you may want to use a squeegee.

For cleaning vehicle markings, please use lukewarm water and common detergent only. Avoid any abrasive or aggressive cleaning agents as well as brushes with hard bristles since they can damage the film surface.

For more information, please refer to the detailed application and care instructions in the respective information sheet of each product.
